Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-Asian racism, crime, and xenophobia has reached an unbearable crisis. However, for our various Asian Pacific Islander Communities: this is nothing new. Indeed, the issues we face are perpetual, infuriating, and tiring. Such anti-Asian and anti-Pacific Islander bias has been a stain and strain for more than a century and our South Florida communities are not immune. The National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) has identified 2021 as a key year to being more intentional and inclusive than ever by promoting the Together as One as the theme and initiative that unifies not only pan-Asian members of NAAAP, but people of all backgrounds, to create an anti-racist, just, safe, and cohesive society.

As part of the Together As One campaign, NAAAP has selected Miami-Dade as the site of its first Virtual Town Hall – Together As One to give our Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities an opportunity to express and discuss their concerns for personal safety, Anti-Asian sentiment and other concerns. We are extremely excited that the Together As One Town Hall will also include collaboration with Miami-Dade’s Asian-American Advisory Board (“AAAB”) and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida (“APABA”) and other community groups. This Town Hall is not only special because it will take place during Asian-American Heritage Month, but this Town Hall will be featured and spotlighted as one of the events supported by the 10 Days of Connection initiative.

The format for the Town Hall is meant to focus on South Florida communities and the public by providing them direct access to law enforcement and a representative from local government. This event will be moderated by Anime, MC, DJ, Host @walkwithanime and our special guests from local authority include:

* Honorable Daniella Levine Cava - Mayor of Miami-Dade Count
* Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Esq. - State Attorney for Miami-Dade County
* Justin Funck, Esq. - Division Chief of Hate Crimes Unit for Miami-Dade County
